Our book sorting operation is 100% powered by teams of volunteers who come for an enriching and fulfilling day at one of our 3 Book Hubs, in London, Leeds and Birmingham.
Each year we host over 7,000 volunteers, many of whom come back time and time again because they’ve had such a great day.

It’s no surprise that we won the Queen’s Award for Volunteering in 2020 and is shared by all of our volunteers - past, present and future.
Our team days are fantastically facilitated by our expert Team Leaders together with Coordinators who are motivated by creating a great atmosphere in which to get thousands of books sorted and packed ready to be sent on new adventures with children.
The team day will start with an introduction to the charity and our mission, setting up the team with a real focus and motivation for their efforts. It will include quality control of our donated books, categorisation by reading stage and then boxing up books in our wonderful yellow boxes ready to be sent out. We make sure there’s lots of encouragement and instruction and capture the team in photos which can be shared on your social media channels.
We ask for a donation of £35 per person in London and £30 in Leeds and Birmingham. This helps us with cost of running the day, and the storage and logistical costs involved in distributing the books sorted.
We welcome teams who would like to bring their clients along for a charity day. It’s a fantastic way to connect with people in a low pressure environment, focused around social action.
