Episode five: Andi Oliver
Born to Antiguan parents and facing terrible childhood racism in 1970s Suffolk, Andi Oliver ran away to West London, where she found music, inspiration and a taste for hard work. From a food truck on Portobello Road and singing with Neneh Cherry in the 80s to award winning restaurants and cookbooks that use food for storytelling. Andi has always found resilience through creativity and survival through expression, whether that's via punk, parenting or food.
Together with our host (BAFTA-nominated comedian, actor, author Rachel Parris), Andi reveals (at least) three children's books that have helped make her who she is today. Delivering not quite the soundtrack of her life, but the literary yarns that knit it together.
THREE BOOKS, THREE STORIES
Andi selects three titles that reveal a personal story:
- Childhood Favourite - the book that shaped who they are today
- Shared Book - a book read with someone special
- Gift to the Future - a title they wish to donate to inspire another child
