A LOVE LETTER TO THE POWER AND JOY OF READING
The Power of a Book celebrates the power of reading in childhood and which encapsulates so much about what the charity seeks to achieve for every child. Think Desert Island Books of Childhood meets Inheritance Books for Children: not quite the soundtrack of our guests’ lives, but the literary yarns that knit lives together.
Hosted by Rachel Parris - comedian, actor, podcaster and author – this limited podcast series is a thank-you to all those who’ve donated their pre-loved books to the charity and a galvanising call to those yet to get on board.
Our guests are all champions of our work and have generously donated their time, unearthing a treasure trove of children’s books that have shaped and gilded their lives, encapsulating or triggering poignant memories of home-life, good and bad.
THREE BOOKS CHOSEN BY EVERY GUEST
At the heart of each episode are three powerful children’s books chosen by our guest. These turn the pages on their own life-story - forging bonds across diverse audiences by way of shared literary experiences.
- A book from childhood – giving a sense of who they are and how they grew up.
- A children’s book they read with someone special – an insight on their present lives.
- A book to donate – a ray of hope for the next generation, one of the above or different.
