Our Discovery Programme gives London primary schools all the books and creative resources they need to put on three book gifting events over the course of the year. By the end of the summer term every child will have had the chance to choose and take home six books of their own.
Over three terms your school will:
- Host a Pop Up Book Hut
- Launch your own Bookshop
- Run a Book Bundle giveaway
The exact order in which you receive your books and event materials will have been communicated to you before the start of the year. The order in which you deliver your events makes no difference but it is worth thinking in advance about how you can dovetail each event with that term’s wider literacy activities and events.
Below is a little more information on each event type and links to resources you can use to promote each one. We encourage you to be as proactive as possible in promoting your events to staff and pupils as this supports book buzz and ensures the widest impacts of your activity.
Pop Up Book Hut
- A beautiful hut on loan for the term plus two books per child
- Can live inside or outside Invites curiosity and sharing
- Children can 'have a look and take a book'
A Bookshop Experience
- Books, bunting, posters, bookmarks & tokens for you to build a Pop Up Bookshop
- Children visit with their class and choose two books
- Huge talkabout factor
Book Bundle giveaway
- A beautifully wrapped bundle of two books for every child
- Children browse for a bundle and swap amongst themselves
- A simple, hands on mechanic ideal for pre-holiday gifting
